AYC's my life in china web series

We are very happy to share our web series called "My Life in China." Each week we will feature compelling stories and new discoveries made by AYC's Ambassadors in their Chinese communities. Media contests

In past years, Ameson Year in China has held Photo-Essay and Video contests for the hard-working English teachers in our teaching ambassador program. The competitions challenged participants to demonstrate what it feels like to be uprooted from a western life and completely immersed in a new culture and lifestyle. The essays and videos here tell the story of participants crafting the unfamiliar into home.

For essays and videos made by Educational Ambassadors, check out the links to our YouTube Channel and our past media competition entries.

AYC Teaching: Make the most of your year in China

What you can accomplish in a year in China depends on how you spend your time there. AYC participants teach no more than 20 hours per week and are allotted 10 hours per week to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and language studies. Participants will also spend time on campus doing teaching-related activities (including lesson preparation, homework grading, office hours, school activities, etc). This leaves a significant amount of your time open to be used as you see fit. While you could load up on knock-off DVDs and re-watch The Sopranos for the third time, that would defeat the purpose of coming to China. We hope you will choose to use this time in a way that contributes to your personal or professional development  However, in China, everything is considered in a social context. As a newcomer to China, the strong support network the AYC provides will be invaluable in fulfilling your ambitions.

“All we have is now…”

There are nearly endless possibilities for how you could spend a year in China. Above all, be active, be outgoing, because so much is possible if you just step out of your comfort zone. In the end, though, your year is your year, and it’s up to you what you do with it. However, it is the AYC’s hope that this year can help kick start your life with an unforgettable year of learning and teaching. We also believe that everyone should spend at least one year abroad in their lives.
