English is the language of opportunity.

From business transactions to international relations, the English language has become one of the most powerful tools for success in the modern world.  China has taken notice, and in recent years has begun to implement new programs and push its youth to learn one of the world’s most valuable languages.  The public school system in China teaches English in its curriculum, but there is a growing lack of English teachers to educate the now over 1.3 billion people in China.

For parents who can afford it, it has become commonplace to send their children to colleges in English speaking countries; not so much to get a better education, but to learn the immensely useful tool of English.  Additionally, the private market for English lessons in China has now reached an estimated 3.1 Billion dollars annually.

Why is the English language so valuable to China? Well:

1)     English is the Jack-of-all-trades business language

2)     Becoming bilingual opens you to more job opportunities

3)     Science is standardized in English

4)     If you learn English you can teach your children English

Passing on a language can be a rewarding experience for both the student and the teacher.  An English teaching career in China can lead to a lifetime of opportunity and a deeper understanding of ones character.

To combat the lack of English teachers in China the non-profit Ameson Foundation created AYC: the Ameson Year in China.  At AYC we strive to give those interested the ability to teach in China.

An ancient Chinese proverb says that “When the student is ready the teacher shall appear.”  At AYC we take this to heart, and look forward helping those interested bring English to China.
